Where Nature Becomes the Curriculum

Green Camp NZ offers international school groups an immersive outdoor education experience unlike any other. Set on the campus of Green School New Zealand — a globally recognised leader in sustainability and regenerative education — students spend a week or two exploring a country where the natural environment is extraordinary, the culture is rich, and the values of kaitiakitanga (environmental stewardship) and whanaungatanga (community and belonging) are lived, not just taught.

New Zealand’s North Island is the classroom: ancient caves, volcanic lakes, Pacific surf, native rainforest, and working regenerative farms — all within a few hours of each other. Green Camp NZ brings it all together into a cohesive, educationally purposeful journey, tailored to your school’s goals and values.

We work directly with school trip coordinators and heads of outdoor education to design programmes that align with curriculum frameworks, learning outcomes, and the specific needs of your student cohort.

Why Green Camp NZ

Green School NZ — A Campus Like No Other

The heart of every Green Camp programme is the Green School NZ campus — 20 acres of native bush, organic gardens, a working river, and award-winning eco-architecture at the foot of Mt Taranaki. As part of the global Green School movement (originating in Bali), Green School NZ is internationally recognised for its pioneering approach to sustainability education. Students don’t visit the school — they live and learn within it.

Genuine Māori Cultural Immersion

New Zealand’s indigenous Māori culture is woven into every programme — not as a performance, but as a living practice. Students participate in a Mihi Whakatau (formal welcome ceremony), prepare a traditional Hāngī earth oven, create their own bone carving pendant under the guidance of skilled practitioners, and engage with Māori values that offer a genuinely different worldview. These are experiences that stay with students long after they return home.

Purposeful Adventure

From surfing Pacific swells on Fitzroy Beach and jet-boating to the base of Huka Falls, to navigating native forest with maps and compasses and exploring the glowworm-lit Waitomo Caves — every activity in a Green Camp programme is chosen for its educational and developmental value, not just its spectacle. Students are challenged, supported, and given space to grow.

Fully Managed, End-to-End

From the moment your group clears customs at Auckland Airport to the final farewell ceremony before departure, every logistical detail is managed by our team. Transport, accommodation, meals, activities, safety supervision, and cultural facilitation — all coordinated so your teachers can focus on their students, not their schedules.

Custom-Built for Your School

No two Green Camp programmes are identical. We work with your school to understand your curriculum goals, student cohort, learning outcomes, and travel dates — then design an itinerary that genuinely reflects them. Schools with an IB, sustainability, outdoor education, or wellbeing focus will find particular alignment with what we offer.

What Students Experience

A Green Camp NZ programme typically spans 7 or 14 days, beginning and ending at Auckland International Airport. The journey moves through some of New Zealand’s most compelling landscapes — from the Waikato’s rolling farmland and the geothermal drama of Lake Taupo, to the surf coast of Taranaki and the campus of Green School NZ, where students spend the core days of their programme.

On campus, students live in tents, cook and eat together, swim in the river, plant native trees, lead each other through nighttime challenges, and sit around fires sharing what the week has meant to them. Off campus, they explore, discover, and push their edges — often doing things they’ve never done before and will never forget.

Every programme includes four interconnected strands:

Outdoor Adventure — Physical challenge and exploration in diverse natural environments: surf, river, bush, mountain, and cave.

Cultural Immersion — Authentic engagement with Māori traditions, values, language, and art forms, facilitated by knowledgeable practitioners.

Sustainability in Action — Hands-on participation in regenerative farming, native planting, ecology, and the principles that underpin Green School NZ’s approach to education and land.

Personal Growth — Fire circles, mindfulness, journaling, leadership challenges, and daily reflection create space for students to develop resilience, self-awareness, and genuine connection with each other.
