Itinerary

Upcoming Programmes:

  • March 15th -19th 2027
  • October 25th -29th 2027

Day 1:
 Your Green School Adventure Begins

Make your own way to New Plymouth and settle into Taranaki.  Green School staff will meet you at New Plymouth Airport and take you to your pre-arranged accommodation.  Use the weekend to settle in, explore New Plymouth and prepare for your Discovery Week adventure.

Day 2: Welcome to Green School New Zealand

Begin with a special Mihi Whakatau, a traditional Māori welcoming ceremony connecting people, place and community.  Explore the campus before getting hands-on with nature through tree planting and discovering how we care for our living environment.  Build connections through team activities and explore Te Reo Māori and its influence on life in Aotearoa New Zealand.  Enjoy lunch with Green School students before taking part in a Raranga Harakeke workshop, learning traditional Māori weaving techniques and the importance of using natural resources respectfully.

Day 3: Learning Through Nature

Begin with mindfulness before heading to Pukeiti Rainforest.  Explore the biodiversity of Taranaki and discover how native ecosystems, conservation and traditional Māori knowledge shape our understanding of the land.  Step into the ngahere (forest), observe the natural world and consider our role as kaitiaki — guardians and protectors of our environment.

Day 4: Nature Day — Learning Together

Experience Green School’s Nature Day alongside our primary learners.  Discover how learning, play and exploration can happen through meaningful connection with nature and real-world experiences.  Older learners can join our High School community for a day immersed in sustainability, creativity, collaboration and the natural environment.

For parents: Enjoy a dedicated parent programme, tailored around your interests and providing opportunities to explore the school, ask questions and connect with our community.

Day 5: Roebuck Farm —Sustainable Growing & Connection to the Land

Discover Roebuck Farm and explore sustainable and regenerative agriculture in Taranaki.  Learn about healthy soils, biodiversity, seasonal produce and responsible land stewardship while discovering where our food comes from.  Experience hands-on learning at the farm and explore the landscape surrounding Mount Taranaki. Wind down with yoga!

Day 6: Culture, Connection & Community

Start the day with our talented Kapa Haka group and experience Māori performance, culture and storytelling.

Continue with Outdoor Education and Buddy Shadowing, giving learners the opportunity to spend time learning alongside Green School students.  Discover how collaboration, wellbeing, sustainability and connection to place are woven into everyday learning.  Join Green School Assembly before saying farewell to the community and reflecting on the experiences, friendships and new perspectives gained throughout the week.

For parents: Take part in a dedicated programme during Buddy Shadowing, tailored around your interests and requests.

Day 7: Until Next Time

Discovery Week comes to an end.  Make your own travel arrangements from New Plymouth to your next destination, taking with you new experiences, meaningful connections and a deeper understanding of nature, culture and sustainability.  Transportation support is included for this final departure.

For Green School NZ Discovery Week, we believe in balancing action-packed learning with moments of calm and exploration. Throughout the week, there will be dedicated downtime opportunities for participants to unwind and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of our campus. Whether it’s exploring the lush grounds, enjoying the play areas, or simply connecting with nature, these moments are designed to inspire curiosity, foster well-being, and create lasting memories. This balance ensures that every camper has the chance to recharge and fully embrace the unique environment Green School offers.
